Vicky Parker: Will the UK have enough energy to power its growth aspirations?

This year’s PwC UK Energy Survey reveals that 83% of businesses expect energy consumption to increase in 2025.

After two decades of falling electricity demand, we are at the start of a new transition in the energy market.

Electrification, automation and technology such as AI are now driving an increase in consumption.

But increased usage exposes businesses to the risk of rising costs - 92% say they expect energy price volatility to increase the price of their products and services in the next 12 months, up from 81% last year.

All this makes it increasingly important for energy users to think hard about how they consume, measure and control energy.

And it also raises a critical question.

How can the UK ensure there is enough stable and affordable power to unlock growth and productivity through this wave of technology-driven automation?

The UK has an ambition to be a global net zero leader. But this will need to be balanced against tough economic realities that the country faces, including energy security and affordability - alongside the need to drive productivity and growth.
