How retailers should navigate the changing payments landscape

The future of retailer payments

shopping in new york

Payments have always been a core part of any retailer's business. Increasingly, retailers from traditional grocers (e.g. Tesco) to direct-to-consumer players (e.g. ASOS) are becoming more sophisticated and more involved in the value capture associated with payment processing.

As technology advances and the payments ecosystem continues its trend towards decentralisation, retailers can leverage payments expertise as a strategic tool to drive down costs or add ancillary revenue. Retailer’s engagement in the payments space will also have downstream implications for incumbents on both the issuer and acquiring side of the payments industry.
