What has happened?
As you know, the School has been experiencing financial difficulties and so the trustees have been exploring their options with a view to obtaining funding, and / or a buyer for the School. Unfortunately, having explored all options, the trustees resolved that there was no reasonable prospect of funding the ongoing trading of the School and closed the School with immediate effect on 13 August 2024. At the same time, the trustees took steps to submit an application to the Accountant in Bankruptcy for the appointment of a Trustee in Bankruptcy to the Kilgraston School Trust. On 3 September 2024, the Accountant in Bankruptcy confirmed the appointment of Sarah O’Toole as Trustee in Bankruptcy.
Further information on the trustees’ decision to close the school can be found on the Kilgraston School Trust website: https://www.kilgraston.com/uncategorised/kilgraston-closure-announcement/.
What is a Trustee in Bankruptcy?
A Trustee in Bankruptcy is an officer of the Court and is qualified to manage the affairs of a debtor or an unincorporated business when it is insolvent. It is their role to take control and wind-down the trust’s affairs. The function of the Trustee in Bankruptcy is to realise and then distribute all available assets in the bankrupt’s estate in accordance with the law.
What school options are available to me/my child?
As set out by the trustees in their announcement on 13 August 2024, Glenalmond / Craigclowan School have extended an offer to all students wishing to start the new academic year there. Glenalmond is a local faith-based school with a similar ethos, who also offer Scottish Highers. Further information can be found on the Glenalmond school website: https://www.glenalmondcollege.co.uk/admissions/kilgraston-families
What if Glenalmond / Craigclowan School is not a suitable alternative?
In this case, parents are free to identify a suitable new school for their children. Some school staff remain available to support pupil transitions to other educational institutions. Please contact uk_kilgraston_parents@pwc.com for further information.
Will my/my child's academic records be available?
All records required by the new school will be provided on request. These records are only available for a limited period so parents should request that new schools onboard their children ASAP.
I/my child has belongings in the school. Can I collect these?
Due to the reduced number of staff in the building, while you are encouraged and welcome to collect your personal belongings, please be advised that you will need to do so by appointment only. Items must be collected by no later than 14 September 2024 from the School.
Please email uk_kilgraston_parents@pwc.com with your preferred day and time so arrangements can be made for you to fetch your belongings in line with availability. Please do not turn up unannounced as we will be unable to give you access to the building without a prior arrangement. This facility will only be available for a short time so please make any such arrangements ASAP.
What happens if I have prepaid fees or deposits to the School?
Unfortunately the School does not have sufficient funds to be able to refund deposits and/or advanced fee payments. You will therefore be a creditor of the School. If you believe you have a claim, please download and complete a statement of claim form which is available in the creditor section of the website.
What will happen to the teachers and staff?
The teachers and staff of the school will unfortunately be made redundant. Glenalmond and Craigclowan School has asked the School employees to contact them as they have a number of areas where they are looking to recruit.
A small number of staff have been retained to support the Trustee in Bankruptcy wind down the School, including but not limited to facilitating the transition of pupils to new schools.
