Hello, I’m Stefano Belbin, a senior manager working in PwC’s tax incentives team and I have almost 10 years of experience in helping businesses with creative sector relief claims.

Creative sector reliefs provide a vital government backed incentive for companies in certain industries. These offer a cash benefit for the creation of Films, High-end & Children’s television shows, Animations, Video games, Theatrical productions, Exhibitions, as well as Orchestral concerts.

These reliefs typically provide a cash benefit of around 20% of the qualifying expenditure incurred on the creation of each of these productions, although this could be up to around 40% for theatre, exhibitions, orchestras and the new independent film credit. These reliefs can either reduce a company’s tax bill or they can provide a payable cash credit for the company.

We have experience of working with businesses and HMRC across each of the different reliefs and we have detailed knowledge of the rules governing them, including obtaining the required certificates for film, TV and video games reliefs from the British Film Institute.

There have been recent significant changes to some of these reliefs, moving the screen based reliefs and video games relief to above the line credits and we can help your business consider this further.

At PwC, we can help your business make these claims including ensuring that the relevant criteria are met and that the appropriate qualifying expenditure is included within your claims.
