In the past year, our UK operations demonstrated resilience, achieving growth despite a difficult trading environment.
Much of this growth was driven by demand for our core services which remain as relevant today, as ever, thanks to our ongoing investments in technology, people and quality.
Our Audit and Tax services both performed well, as we've helped clients navigate complex and changing regulatory requirements. Our Deals, Risk and Consulting teams have experienced quieter markets but continued to support clients to transform their businesses and achieve their strategic objectives.
We’ve also seen increasing client demand for our cloud, ESG and customer-led transformation expertise that have been key investment areas for us.
And, with an ambition to be the pre-eminent firm and our purpose to build trust in society and solve important problems, investing and transforming through economic cycles remains vital. The strength of our balanced portfolio has enabled us to continue this investment throughout this year.
Of course, with the rapid rise of Gen AI, technology remains a strategic priority. In May we were delighted to agree a deal with OpenAI that not only makes PwC the largest user of ChatGPT Enterprise, but also its first reseller.
And this followed our work with OpenAI and Harvey to create a UK tax-trained AI model for our tax practice and an innovative PwC Deals platform that positions us strongly as this market evolves.
Being able to move at speed is due, in large part, to the importance we place on alliances within our technology strategy. We have nine strategic alliances as well as around 20 technology partners, helping us to drive change both for the firm and our clients.
Our Next Generation Audit platform developed in collaboration with Microsoft is an example of this in practice as it continues to transform the way we deliver audits.
With significant change in our business and markets, we have focused efforts on continuous learning and reskilling for our people. Alongside helping them adopt new technologies, we’ve fostered an inclusive culture and we are dedicated to creating opportunities for everyone.
Our commitment was recognised when we were named the top UK employer in the Social Mobility Employer Index 2023, for the third time.
We’ve enhanced our wellbeing initiatives, reinforcing our commitment to a safe, supportive workplace where everyone can thrive, irrespective of their background.
Our team of full-time Talent Coaches are focused solely on the performance, development, and wellbeing of our colleagues in the early stages of their careers.
Recognising the importance of our people collaborating across teams and with our clients we have continued to develop state of the art office spaces that enable our people to do their best work. We sit in the heart of many local communities with 19 offices including a new space in Bradford announced this year.
Our regional presence not only enables us to support our clients up and down the country, it also gives our people the opportunity to share their skills through volunteering and community outreach. And this year we’ve seen a seven percent increase in volunteering hours - exceeding our target of 50,000 hours.
This is an important demonstration of how we work collaboratively with our stakeholders and clients to deliver on our purpose.
