Family Business Road Trip

Setting the scene

Since 2015 we have sponsored the annual Family Business Road Trip run by Family Business United which takes place across some of our regions. This is an innovative event that celebrates the essential contribution family firms make to national GDP and regional economies.

“The Family Business Road Trip is a great opportunity to get behind the scenes with family business owners across the UK, to see what they do and where they do it, but more importantly get a real understanding of the passion of the owners and management teams for their products."

How we helped

The Family Business Road Trip 2018 ran for six weeks covering Yorkshire to the Lake District and the Midlands to London, East Anglia, Sussex and a whole host of counties in between! During the trip, the tour met with families behind some of the UK’s most noteworthy businesses, including JCB, Robinsons Brewery, Francis Kirk, Sheppys Cider, Harrison Spinks, and many more.

Making a difference

During the visits our aim was to dispel some of the myths surrounding the family business sector, promoting family firms as the engine room of the UK economy and celebrating the diversity of sectors that they represent as well.

For the first time in 2018, we also embarked on a Road Trip across Scotland to really put Scottish family firms on the map. Over two weeks, we visited over 20 businesses, took part in factory tours and interviews to really showcase the diversity of family businesses across the country. Some of the Scottish companies who signed up included Walkers Shortbread, Mackays, Crieff Hydro, Johnstons of Elgin, Stafffinders, Scottish Leather Group and Broomhall House.

"Innovation and entrepreneurship was evident everywhere we went and we were delighted to have the support of PwC across the UK for both trips which really gave us a great platform to put family businesses on the map and celebrate and champion firms that really do help make Britain Great.”
