Each year, our North West practice chooses a charity to support with various fund raising activities. This year's chosen charity was the Teenage Cancer Trust. Around seven young people aged between 13 and 24 are diagnosed with cancer every day in the UK. They need expert treatment and support from the moment they hear the word ‘cancer’. The Teenage Cancer Trust is the only charity dedicated to making this happen.
Whilst staff have held lots of different activities to raise money, both big and small, some of the highlights include three trainee associates doing a skydive and 75 staff taking part in the Great Manchester Run.
Three trainee associates Bethany Langan (Consulting), Rose Arnold and Jessica Whyte (Assurance) completed a skydive in April and raised £2,792.
In May, 44 runners from the Manchester office took to the streets of the city to complete the Great Manchester Run, including a 10k run or a half marathon. Together they have raised £1,753 to date.
As well as fundraising, we have also supported the charity by donating two of our Manchester Utd FC executive box tickets for a match, and PwC volunteers attended a Manchester City match in April to help the Teenage Cancer Trust collect money before the match.
Our internal PwC North choir helped staff get into the festive spirit in December by performing in the grand staircase of our new Manchester office No. 1 Spinningfields. Along with cake sales and mulled wine, the event helped to raise £235 thanks to staff donating their time.
"Supporting our local communities is important to us all, whether through volunteering, supporting charities or raising money. The response, dedication and commitment shown by all our teams has been fantastic"
Iwan Griffiths, PwC North West Regional Chairman said: “Each year our people in the North West vote on which charity to support and for 2018 the Teenage Cancer Trust was chosen. We work together across the practice to raise funds through lots of different challenges and fun events. Supporting our local communities is important to us all, whether through volunteering, supporting charities or raising money. The response, dedication and commitment shown by all our teams has been fantastic - and I’d like to thank everyone for getting involved.”
