This year, our alliance with Sage, the UK’s largest listed tech company, helped provide 150 clients with the insight needed to run their businesses, simplify operations, and reduce costs.
Setting the scene
There are over 5.7 million small and mid-sized businesses (SMBs) in the UK, all looking to secure sustainable growth while navigating a rapidly changing business environment.
Sage, a leader in accounting, finance, HR and payroll technology, is focused on helping SMBs access strategic insights that power informed business decisions, streamline processes and controls, and increase efficiency through innovative technology and expert advice.
In 2020, Sage asked us to be its UK professional services partner to help support SMBs at all stages of growth to improve their productivity and scale. Our partnership combines Sage Intacct, a cloud-based finance system that Sage acquired in 2017, with our multidisciplinary expertise and brand.
How we helped
Working top down from our trusted relationship with Sage’s CEO, we co-created an alliance and operating model from scratch, piloted it for six months, and are now in our second full year of delivery.
From rapid system integrations to more complex end-to-end finance transformations, our team helps businesses to simplify their finance operations and automate their repetitive processes.
For example, we helped a UK-based high street and home delivery food company to transform its finance function rapidly, enabling it to focus on data-driven decision making to aid expansion, rather than spending time and effort every month on manual activities. We also used Sage Intacct to help a growing private markets technology business to find efficiencies that have reduced the time spent on month-end close by 50%, and contributed to an improved gross profit margin for their clients.
Our global delivery centre of excellence is based out of our PwC Operate office in Belfast, Northern Ireland, where we have grown a team of 70+ Intacct-qualified experts. We have developed market-leading methodologies, blueprints and proprietary data migration technology that rapidly moves customers from legacy products to the cloud. This enables us to deliver competitively at pace and scale, while maintaining extremely high delivery quality.

Since 2020, we’ve gone from zero to 240 implementations and have built a team of 70+ consultants.
We’ve supported 150 organisations in the last twelve months and our alliance continues to evolve. We’re now delivering professional services for Sage’s Canadian and US markets, have embedded our PwC Business Advisory Skills training as part of Sage’s award-winning Partner Academy Programme, and developed Control Insights, a data-driven tool to help fast-growth organisations scale their businesses. We’re now also exploring how AI and effective ESG reporting can help SMBs for their next stage of growth.
