How I use History in my work now:

  • I complete research on a day to day basis.
  • I prepare long documents and provide advice to clients.
  • All of these skills, were useful acquired when I studied history.

My highlight of my job so far

  • Qualifying as a Solicitor after years of studying
  • Being able to understand the law and advice my clients on how to grow their businesses
  • Working with very intelligent people (colleagues and clients) and learning from them daily

If I went back in time what piece of advice would I give my 17 year old self?

Get to know yourself, what do you enjoy doing and are also good at naturally. Do not follow specific paths only because your school or a relative told you to do so.

Where I work: Sales and Marketing, Embankment and More London

How I use Geography in my work now:

  • I use my Geography GCSE (and degree) to research and then analyse my findings draw my own conclusions and making recommendations
  • My written skills from reporting writing and making sense of complex data sets and ideas come into play daily, whether that’s on email, a blog or a report itself for my clients
  • From carrying out fieldwork, I can plan ahead and solve problems practically, a skill that is used everyday with a variety of colleagues

My highlight of my job so far

  • My highlight so far has been working with colleagues across the business, championing our social mobility activity across the firm
  • Organising a fundraising event with my client and PwC teams, raising funds for the PwC Foundation

If I went back in time what piece of advice would I give my 14 year old self?

I would think about what subjects I feel passionate about. Learning more about a subject that you are interested in makes the process much easier and you’ll land a job you love doing.

Where I work: London

How I use Geography in my work now:

  • Considering all stakeholder opinions when completing any project work for our clients and recognising how our work will impact each group.
  • PwC is a global company and having the understanding of the political, social and economic geographies helped me to quickly understand the variety of clients that we work with across the world.
  • Geography is going to be increasingly important when we think about the future of our planet and therefore what our clients need e.g. sustainability, ageing populations etc

My highlight of my job so far

  • Being exposed to cool new technologies that will transfer the world of work like Virtual Reality and Drones.
  • Playing virtual games with my team in our morning meetings

If I went back in time what piece of advice would I give my 17 year old self?

Commit to my studies because Education is key but make sure I balance this with hobbies e.g. sports because at uni and work these are important to help socialise and keep you healthy!
