Lee:
I’ve been delighted to be a part of the Leadership Mutual Mentoring Programme, which is where people from PwC’s audit practice are paired with audit leadership and they get a chance to learn from them. I was paired with Andy Hammond who will be joining me now and I wanted to find out what were you hoping to get from our mentorship when we first met?
Andy:
So I love meeting new people and different people within our audit practice. So I was hoping to meet and get to know somebody with a different background to me, different experiences and come into the firm in a very different way, so that I could understand how it feels to be part of our PwC audit practice. I was also hoping to be able to debate some of the important issues that we’ve been working through as an Audit Executive to understand how they feel to our people in the business.
Lee, I’ll be interested to hear why you first joined the programme?
Lee:
It’s important to me to share my background and insights, to be able to help you be aware of these when you’re setting the agendas and thinking about things that will affect our audit practice.
What do you think sets mutual mentoring apart from traditional mentoring?
Andy:
So I think it’s important to define what we mean by mutual mentoring. And for me, it’s very much a two way process where both parties in the relationship learn from one another. It’s been fascinating for me to learn from you about your background, your culture and your experiences within the firm, so that we can take the right decisions. But it’s also given me a great opportunity to share with you some of my experiences, my network, and some of the relationships that I have within the organisation to allow you to build your career in the right way and really progress and move forward.
I’d be really interested to hear though, what was your highlight from the programme?
Lee:
I gained the confidence to be able to take up a new role, which I wouldn’t have outside of those meetings and all the discussions that we had. So I have you to thank for that. And I’d like to pass the question back. What was your highlight?
Andy:
At the end of the programme where we all came back together as a group and we heard from all of the different relationships that had been built throughout the programme. Some of the highlights and the stories and the experiences were fantastic.
