Transparency Report 2024 - Our Chief Auditor Network

The Chief Auditor Network, or CAN as we call it, consists of over 90 auditors based across our practice who provide dedicated support to our audit teams to deliver high quality work. One of the primary purposes of the CAN is to provide real-time, local support to audit teams throughout an engagement.

One of the areas I enjoy the most is fielding ad-hoc queries from colleagues in my office as it gives me exposure to different industries and the opportunity to bring a fresh perspective, challenge our audit approach and ultimately enhance quality.

As a member of the CAN, I really enjoy delivering training, which is another important aspect of the role we perform. We support the formal audit training programme nationally, but each local CAN unit also provides regular bite-size training to their region. This is our chance to engage with each office and come up with new and exciting ways of delivering technical content.

I'm part of the CAN in the Birmingham office and each year we have a ‘Frosty the Snowman goes auditing’ session as a fun way to share the key quality reminders before we go into our peak reporting period.

As well as the sessions that are open to everyone we also provide dedicated engagement team workshops, which gives us the opportunity to work one-on-one with teams, dive deeper into an engagement and provide dedicated support in more complex areas.

As a member of the CAN, I get to be one of the first people to experience our new technology and digital tools, upskilling myself so that I'm then able to advocate for the adoption and consistent use of the latest tools across our audit teams.

With our ear on the ground helping teams live, we get to hear and understand what engagement teams are facing in real time. We can then share these insights more broadly with the rest of the Chief Auditor Network to help identify the areas that we all need to focus on to drive audit quality.
