Building a secure digital society with Chatham House

Embedding our 24/7 cyber security monitoring service ensures The Royal Institute of International Affairs (Chatham House) can continue to focus on helping people, societies and governments understand and adapt to change.

Setting the scene

Given its profile, Chatham House - alongside similar policy institutes - has increasingly become the target of cyber threat actor groups, which are looking to affect the outcomes of western policy making decisions.

Such groups use cyber warfare, often in tandem with kinetic warfare, and organisations such as Chatham House are at a heightened risk of being targeted as they potentially offer access to insights into the conduct and execution of Government policy and diplomacy.

How we helped

As the findings of our 2023 Cyber Security Outlook demonstrated, organisations face a range of threats to their operations, most often through cloud security, email or via ransomware.

Our unique research and security intelligence, combined with our technical expertise, means we can help build resilient operations and reduce cyber risk. This includes defence and detection as well as risk advisory.

In response to its request, we embedded our Managed Cyber Defence service to support Chatham House’s internal team, building resilience and providing access to security monitoring. We also provided Chatham House with information to help it better understand the evolving nature of the threat landscape and the operational vulnerabilities threat actors would look to exploit.

Our alliance partners, Microsoft and Palo Alto Networks, provided the technology platforms that underpin this service - through logging and monitoring security events to orchestrating and automating the response by our analysts.

“A research-based organisation such as Chatham House strives to help governments and societies build a sustainably secure, prosperous, and just world. One key issue for everyone is cyber security, which is intertwined with, and reflective of, wider geopolitical challenges. We value the expertise and support provided by PwC in this challenging area.”
