The Audit of Excellence Experience

Our Centre of Excellence teams are specialists in some of the most complex areas of an audit. As an Associate, you’ll begin your specialist learning pathway from the very start and will soon find yourself in discussions with Finance Directors of some of our biggest clients across the UK.

Your knowledge will develop at pace. You’ll learn on the job, taking responsibility early on. Our Centre of Excellence team engages with colleagues within our Audit practice and, as an Audit specialist, you’ll be the person providing advice and support as a subject matter expert.

You’ll also have access to some of the most innovative and latest technologies within PwC. Embracing these technologies on your client engagements will be especially important as most of your time will be spent working centrally from your base location, advising our clients and your Audit colleagues across the UK. If you’re looking to build a career in Audit but also want to work with minimal travel to client locations, a role in the Centre of Excellence could be for you.

You’ll benefit from a quality training programme specific to the Centre of Excellence, whilst gaining your Chartered Accountancy qualification.

Joining as a graduate

Your role in Audit will involve studying for the Chartered Accountant (ACA or CA) qualification.

You’ll start your professional qualification almost immediately upon joining and within the first few months you’ll take your first set of exams. Studying can be tough but we'll be right behind you with full financial support and access to first-class tuition. On our training programme you’ll benefit from a flexible learning provision to suit various learning styles - such as tutor-led sessions, self-managed learning and small group sessions. Our dedicated professional qualifications team and your career coach will offer support throughout your professional study journey.

You'll need to have achieved or be on track to pass an undergraduate degree or above in any subject. We determine whether you're on course to pass based on the grades you achieved in your last completed year of academic study.

For more information on what to expect from your professional qualification and the support you’ll receive, visit our training and development page.

Life in the Audit Centre of Excellence

Our teams are based hub office across the UK.  All are located right in the city centre, so you’ll enjoy all the perks of a great working location as well as easy access to the office.

Our Centre of Excellence teams work from one of our PwC offices or virtually, offering a different experience to other Audit teams, who spend more time working on client sites. As the majority of the work we do for clients is virtual, we place a strong emphasis on putting the team first. We're inclusive, have regular social events and our key base offices meet in-person quarterly.

As an Audit specialist team we also place a huge prominence on coaching, encouraging those new to our team to take on opportunities outside of their comfort zone that offer stretch and challenge. Our teams will make you feel welcome from the start and create a safe space for everyone within the teams to challenge themselves, each other, and management to deliver the highest audit quality.

Working in the Centre of Excellence and in Audit as a profession is something in which we take real pride. You'll join teams that work together with flexibility, agility and intelligence to solve important problems for our clients across the UK. Our role in the Centre of Excellence is to share our specialist knowledge and expertise. We all take personal and collective responsibility as a team to ensure that we provide the highest quality audits.

The future of our Audit Centre of Excellence

Operating as a national team, technology plays an integral part in communication, coaching and project management within the Centre of Excellence. We use our own purpose built technology to support us in managing the client relationship; project managing the audit; and to create technology based efficiencies that enhance the quality of the work we do. These purpose built technologies are coupled with platforms such as Alteryx (which allows us to quickly access, manipulate, analyse, and output data) and Power BI dashboards (which allows us to provide insightful visualisation of data) to drive insightful and focused conversation with our clients.

We’re a team focused on continual development, and as specialists in our fields we actively encourage our people to attend virtual training and Lunch and Learns, which often have a focus on upcoming technical updates.

We also work with our offshore Service Delivery Centre (SDC) in India, which provides the opportunity for our Associates to collaborate, review and manage the SDC work.

Utilising these teams and technologies creates the capacity for you to focus on the more technical areas of the audit at a much earlier stage in your career. Giving you the opportunity to develop your skills and career path from the very beginning.
