Delivering Deal Value

The Delivering Deal Value (DDV) team works with both Corporate and Private Equity (PE) clients in a wide range of high impact business situations.

Working in Delivering Deal Value

Our Delivering Deal Value (DDV) team focuses on providing support for transactions and assists clients in all operational aspects of the transaction, pre and post deal, including:

  • Pre-deal value creation advisory – i.e. where can we see value for our client in this deal?
  • Buy and sell side operational due diligence, i.e. what could be improved to unlock further value for our client?
  • Synergy development and review, i.e. where are the synergies between two businesses and how well has the plan for capturing these synergies been compiled?
  • Carve out due diligence and divestment support.
  • Taking control and 100 day planning.
  • Mergers & Acquisition (M&A) Integration.
  • Post-acquisition performance improvement using our Rapid Value Creation methodology.

We rapidly develop an understanding of the target/client business in order to assimilate the key operational issues, synergies, risks and upsides around a transaction. We communicate our findings in real time to our clients as well as producing written reports articulating our findings for the buyer or seller. We regularly help our clients with post deal implementation projects including taking control of the acquired business, tracking the synergy delivery plan and implementing cost reduction opportunities.

The Delivering Deal Value experience

As a graduate in DDV you’ll rotate through our different sub teams, which are either industry specific or cross-sector (e.g. Retail, Consumer and Leisure, Telecom Media and Technology, Industrial Products and Services, Finance, Technology etc.), and gain a broad range of experiences. At the end of your graduate programme you’ll have the opportunity to be promoted into one of these teams.

On a typical project you’ll work as part of a team of two to twenty people, analysing the client data to draw commercial insights and conclusions which will eventually be presented to our clients. The project manager will rely on you for effective support throughout the transaction process. Our engagements vary in length. With an M&A Deal, you might spend between two weeks and three months working on a project. Our ‘post deal’ projects normally last between three months and a year. Across most projects you’ll have the opportunity to travel, either within the UK or internationally.

Your responsibilities might include:

  • quantitative analysis of the operational aspects of a transaction,
  • preparation of client presentations or reports, and
  • liaising with multiple stakeholders, both external and internal to build strong and meaningful relationships.

Outside of project work, you’ll be involved in business development activities including industry or client specific research to identify potential clients or areas of opportunity. As part of business development you’ll often create pitch or discussion documents which will be presented or discussed with our potential clients.

Joining as a graduate

Our DDV induction will help to build your confidence and learn about the products we offer. You’ll learn from experienced people and benefit from formal and informal learning and development programmes ongoing throughout your graduate rotations and beyond.

A professional qualification is not included in the graduate programme, however, beyond the graduate scheme DDV supports individuals to seek out qualifications that will benefit their professional career and have sponsored qualifications such as CIMA, where the business case exists.

Additionally, you’ll have the opportunity to work towards the Chartered Management Consultant award, which sets and maintains the highest standards for the management consulting profession and is aligned to "Consulting Excellence"; the MCA 'kite mark' of quality.

Hear from some of our current graduates

“I joined the DDV team in 2019 after gaining an MEng in Aerospace Engineering at the University of Bath.

I’ve had the opportunity to work on several multi-million pound Carve Outs for large multinational companies, helping to calculate the standalone financials of the separated entity before sale, as well as a Carve Out for a Technology company, particularly focussing on their Go To Market function. I’ve also completed multiple Due Diligence reports, on both the buy-side and the sell-side, for smaller media and financial services companies. These projects have enabled me to work with people from around the world and develop a wide range of new skills.

Through the graduate scheme I’ve had the chance to rotate through sectors within the team, helping me to meet a wide variety of people and try out different types of projects. It’s this variety in work and clients which I have enjoyed so much, as well as how friendly and sociable everyone in the team is.”

"I joined the DDV team in September 2021 after completing a BSc in Mathematics, Operational Research, Statistics, Economics and a MSc in Management, both at the University of Warwick.

I've had the opportunity to work on a number of multi-million pound M&A deals across multiple sectors such as Technology, Health & Pharma, and Retail. I worked on a Vendor Due Diligence (VDD) where we supported the sale of a large European pharmaceutical business to Private Equity in a deal worth $2bn, multiple Operational Due Diligences (ODD) for software and technology businesses, and longer term projects including the Carve Out of a large division of a global manufacturing company. The array of projects, client interactions, and working styles, has helped me build a great foundation moving forward.

The DDV graduate scheme enables us to work across a variety of sectors, gaining new skills whilst meeting new people across the team on a daily basis to provide a great learning environment. I've really enjoyed working with different people across projects and really appreciate the time and effort they dedicate to supporting my growth and development on a personal and professional level."

“I joined the DDV team in 2021 after completing a Master’s degree in Political Economy of Europe at the London School of Economics and Political Science.

Since joining the team, I've had the opportunity to work on a range of client engagements. My first project was supporting a Carve Out of several cosmetics brands from a multinational cosmetic company, looking at the intricacies of separating different business functions with a focus on the Finance function. Most recently, I worked on a Synergy Development for a Private Equity firm considering a merger of two of their professional services firms, developing cost benefits from the merger.

The graduate scheme provides a great exposure to a variety of sectors, clients and types of projects within DDV, with every new experience presenting an opportunity to learn and grow. Furthermore, it's a great way to build both your internal and external networks, thus providing access to a breadth of experts and mentors.”
