The aim of the pathways is to foster Black undergraduate talent. Black talent is currently underrepresented in our industry.

34% of PwC’s 2021 intake were from a minority ethnic group compared to the 25% ethnic minority students at UK Universities. However, only 2% of our graduates were Black compared to 4% of Black students in the UK university population eligible for our programmes. 

So we know we have more work to do in reaching Black students and encouraging them to explore opportunities at PwC.

Strategy& Black Talent is a supported recruitment pathway, where you’ll meet and learn from the Strategy& team and find out what a future career with us in strategy consulting could look like. The pathway boasts a virtual insight day followed by an (optional) in-person networking event hosted in our London office. 

After attending the insight day and (optionally) the networking evening, attendees will be offered the chance to resubmit parts of their application to continue through to the later stages of our Graduate Associate or Summer Internship recruitment process. Please note that you'll not be assessed during the insight day or at the networking event.

What will the pathways involve?

During the virtual insight day, you’ll meet and learn from our inspiring people and find out what a future career with us in strategy consulting could look like. We’ll teach you how to showcase your skills and experience on your CV, write effective and relevant cover letters and build your commercial awareness. There will also be a dedicated case study workshop based on a project that the Strategy& team has recently completed, giving you the opportunity to practise in a friendly, open and supportive environment. Throughout the day you’ll hear from Strategy& employees at various stages of their career, from Associates right through to our Partners, and there will be many opportunities to ask them questions.

At a later date, attendees will have the opportunity to join us in our London office for a networking evening, where you’ll meet our team in-person. They will speak candidly about strategy consulting and PwC, and answer any more questions you may have. After this, candidates who are offered a place at an assessment day will be assigned a Strategy& buddy, to provide advice and support throughout the process.

Eligibility

To be eligible for the Internship pathway, you’ll need to:

  • be entering your penultimate year of study or entering your final year of study with a one year postgraduate degree place confirmed starting autumn 2025
  • have achieved or be on track to pass an undergraduate degree or above in any subject
  • have the right visa eligibility to for an internship in the summer of 2025, and to start a graduate programme in autumn 2026 or spring 2027
  • available to attend a virtual insight day on Friday 4 October 2024.

To be eligible for the Graduate (Associate) pathway:

  • you’ll need to be entering your final year of undergraduate/postgraduate study this autumn, or be a recent graduate who is able to start a full-time Associate role in autumn 2025 or spring 2026
  • have achieved or be on track to pass an undergraduate degree or above in any subject
  • have the right visa eligibility to start a graduate programme in autumn 2025 or spring 2026
  • be available to attend a virtual insight day on Friday 4 October 2024.

What's next?

  • To gain a place on the Strategy& Black Talent pathway you’ll complete the first part of the Strategy& recruitment process. Please submit your application by Monday 22 July 2024.

  • All applications will be reviewed together after the closing date. Decisions will be communicated to applicants by Friday 6 September 2024.

  • The Black Talent virtual insight day is scheduled to take place on Friday 4 October 2024, with the optional in-person networking evening on Monday 7 October 2024.

  • After taking part in the insight day, you’ll have the opportunity to put what you’ve learned into practice by submitting your CV and re-submitting your motivational questions. Successful candidates will then be offered a place at an assessment day for a full-time graduate role or internship.

Key information to include on your motivational questions:

  • You will be asked three motivational questions as part of the questionnaire when you apply, the questions you will be asked are below: 

    • What do you feel is unique about Strategy& and appeals the most to you?

    • What personal traits and skills would you bring to the role that would help you become a successful strategy consultant? Please use examples to demonstrate.

    • Tell us about a time when you personally took the initiative to lead a team or drive a project forward. What did you do, what challenges did you overcome and what outcome did you deliver?

  • We advise that you keep a copy of your motivational questions answers to hand as you will want to revisit these should you be invited to attend our insight day.

Tips:

  • Have a clear structure.
  • Articulate your key messages clearly and concisely.

Online tests

Upon completing your application you will be invited to complete an online assessment, the deadline to complete this is seven days from your application. Our online assessments give you the opportunity to demonstrate your approach to problem solving, and to evidence your numerical inductive and deductive reasoning skills.
